Changsha International Conference Centre, China, 12 June 2025: The Minister of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD), Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa, emphasized the need for affordable capital to unlock Uganda’s mineral potential and promote green mining practices. In her keynote address at the China-Africa Green Mining Cooperation event, the Minister highlighted the country’s ongoing reforms in the mining industry, aimed at attracting investment and reducing risks.
The event, attended by over 30 African Ministers of Minerals, Changsha Provincial Government representatives, and mining business leaders, provided a platform for Uganda to showcase its investment opportunities in both the mining and energy sectors. The Minister took the opportunity to promote investment in Uganda’s energy industry, particularly in the development of new electricity generation capacity, including the Kiba, Ayago, and solar plants. These initiatives are crucial for powering clean mining ventures and driving value addition in the sector.
In the petroleum sector, the Minister invited Chinese investors to explore opportunities in the Kabalega petro-based industrial park and upcoming petroleum licensing rounds. Hon. Nankabirwa’s address underscored Uganda’s commitment to developing its mineral resources in a sustainable and responsible manner while promoting investment in the energy sector.
The event proved to be a valuable opportunity for Uganda to engage with potential investors and partners, showcasing its potential for green mining and energy development. With its rich mineral resources and a growing energy sector, Uganda is well-positioned to attract investment and drive economic growth.
