Munyonyo, Kampala, 15 September 2025: Eng. Irene Bateebe, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD), delivered keynote remarks as Guest of Honor at the 8th African Women Engineers Forum, held under the theme “Inclusive Engineering: Women Leading Innovation for Africa’s Sustainable Future.”
The forum formed part of the 11th UNESCO Africa Engineering Week and 9th African Engineering Conference at Speke Resort Convention Center, Munyonyo.
The event climaxed with a Fireside Chat featuring four panelists, including Dr. Patricia Litho, AC/ CIM MEMD. Drawing on 24 years of experience in communications for engineers and the energy sector, Dr. Litho urged more women to pursue STEM careers, emphasizing engineering’s role as the foundation of other industries.
She highlighted how tools such as AI, audio-visuals, and branding materials are all products of engineering. Adding to Eng. Bateebe’s inspiring message, Dr. Litho encouraged women engineers to build strong soft skills alongside technical expertise
