Hon. Phiona Nyamutoro, along with her guests, participated in a discussion on Rainbow Radio, focusing on the importance of clean cooking in preparation for the Nebbi Clean Cooking Awareness Campaign. The conversation highlighted the many benefits of clean cooking, including environmental protection, improved health, and time savings.
Hon. Nyamutoro informed participants that the clean cooking program was commissioned by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD), starting in Yumbe and concluding in Nebbi Districts. She shared that clean cooking was crucial for both environmental protection and safeguarding health by reducing emissions from traditional cooking methods.
She urged participants to embrace clean cooking in all its forms, including electricity, gas, biogas, ethanol, and briquettes. The discussion also included the announcement that distribution centers would be set up in Nebbi, allowing LPG users easy access to refills.
To ensure the safe adoption of clean cooking technologies, Hon. Nyamutoro instructed that end-user training be conducted. The guests also discussed the incentives available for those who adopt clean cooking technologies, such as free LPG cylinders and affordable refills, with the cost of a refill set at just UGX 100,000. They shared success stories of individuals who made the switch to clean cooking and experienced significant reductions in cooking costs.
