Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), 1 July 2025: MUST hosted a Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD) delegation to discuss establishing the National Nuclear Fuel Resources Analytical Laboratory.
The facility will support Uganda’s nuclear power initiatives, uranium production, and advanced research. Vice Chancellor Prof. Pauline Byakika-Kibwika pledged support, presenting the Kihumuro site as a potential host location, pending University Council consultation.
MEMD officers highlighted pre-feasibility studies and the lab’s role in training, quality control, and industry support.
MUST is among the five universities considered. The meeting ended with an exchange of souvenirs, reinforcing collaboration for Uganda’s nuclear future.
