Kampala, 25 September 2025: The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD) held a high-level meeting with international investors from Qatar and their European partners, facilitated by H.E. the President, signaling Uganda’s strong commitment to attracting strategic Foreign Direct Investment (FDI).
The delegation was led by Dr. Rashid Yahya Ssemuddu, Special Presidential Envoy to Qatar, while MEMD was represented by Permanent Secretary Eng. Irene Bateebe, Commissioner Mines Department Ms. Agnes Alaba, and Mines Inspector Mr. Kennedy Opio.
Investors, who already hold significant interests in Uganda’s financial sector, expressed strong intent to expand into mining, requesting immediate access to feasibility studies and technical data for gold and critical minerals. MEMD pledged to expedite the provision of geological data, support establishment of a local operating company, and facilitate the licensing process.
This engagement marks a vital step in advancing the President’s vision of tenfold economic growth, positioning mining as a central pillar.
