Parliament of Uganda, 3 September 2025: The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD), led by Hon. Okasaai Sidronius Opolot, State Minister for Energy, and Eng. Irene Bateebe, Permanent Secretary, met with the Parliamentary Committee on Government Assurance and Implementation to review progress in the energy sector.
Key discussions centered on transmission expansion, energy access, tariff reduction, financing, and tackling vandalism of infrastructure.
MEMD highlighted efforts under the Grid Expansion and Reinforcement Project and plans to strengthen access in Northern Uganda and West Nile. Parliament requested a monitoring trip starting 11 September.
The Ministry also outlined responsibilities under NDP IV, specifically the Sustainable Energy Development (SED) and Sustainable Extractives Industry Development (SEID) programs.
