Petroluem House, Entebbe, 9 September 2025: The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD) has unveiled results from the five-year aerial geophysical survey of Karamoja and Lamwo regions, marking a major step in unlocking Uganda’s mineral potential.
Coordinated by Dr. Isaiah Tumwikirize, the project achieved 100% coverage, mapping subsurface geological structures and identifying mineral anomalies to guide investment and sustainable development.
Key findings include promising zones for gold, rare earth elements, and base metals, alongside improved geological mapping to support future exploration.
The datasets will be accessible to investors, researchers, and development partners. Conducted with Xcalibur Geophysics Spain and Paterson Grant & Watson, the survey underscores government’s commitment to data-driven, transparent mineral exploration. Permanent Secretary Eng. Irene Bateebe reaffirmed MEMD’s dedication to inclusive, environmentally sound mineral development, aligned with national goals, and invited stakeholders to engage with the findings for collaborative opportunities.
