Ntungamo, 11 July 2025: The Mines Department concluded a week-long registration of artisanal miners in Ntungamo, covering three tin-mining associations and registering 751 miners, bringing the district total to 1,233. Most supply Wood Cross Smelting Company, Uganda’s only operational tin smelter. The exercise was supported by local leaders in Kyarubare and Kabiga villages. In Eastern Uganda, 940 miners were registered in Namayingo, mainly from Buwaye and Namayingo town council, including Bulamba, which saw a 2024 gold rush. Of these, 213 are female and 727 male, raising Uganda’s registered artisanal miners to 6,884, comprising 2,007 women and 4,877 men.
