MUST, Mbarara, 23 August 2025: The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD) has toured the proposed site at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) for the establishment of Uganda’s first National Nuclear Fuel Resources Analytical Laboratory. The facility will provide state-of-the-art analytical services critical for developing and managing nuclear fuel resources. It will support Uganda’s Nuclear Energy Roadmap, boost scientific capacity, and ensure compliance with international safety standards.
The laboratory will not only serve Uganda’s nuclear program but also provide services to the wider Great Lakes Region. It will strengthen research, training, and innovation, creating opportunities for young scientists and reducing dependence on foreign laboratories.
