The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, through the Upstream Petroleum Department and represented by Mr. Mwongyere David (Palynologist), participated in the Annual Medical Camp held at Buhuka Health Centre III. This Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative was organized by CNOOC Uganda Limited, operator of the Kingfisher Development Area.
In an address delivered at the event, the Ministry commended CNOOC for its holistic approach to community development. Key highlights included the construction of the lifesaving and transformative escarpment road, provision of healthcare services, education scholarships, youth vocational training, and sustainable livelihood programs.
The medical camp attracted 758 beneficiaries from Buhuka and surrounding communities, who received free diagnosis and treatment for various ailments provided by both Ugandan and Chinese medical professionals. CNOOC also donated essential medical equipment, such as hospital beds, BP machines, theatre beds, and eye examination kits, which have significantly enhanced the capacity of local health facilities. To date, over 4,000 people have benefited from CNOOC’s medical outreach.
The Ministry further acknowledged CNOOC’s continued investment in human capital, particularly through international scholarships and vocational training for over 300 youth. Notably, Ms. Nasazi Ritah from Buhuka, who was retained as a Drilling Engineer at CNOOC, further exemplifies the company’s commitment to the national content policy. These initiatives, along with modern agricultural support, are contributing significantly to socioeconomic empowerment in the Albertine region.
The Ministry encouraged continued collaboration between CNOOC and local communities to ensure shared prosperity and the responsible development of Uganda’s petroleum resources.
