K-Hotels, Entebbe, 28 August 2028: The Sustainable Development of the Mining Sector in Uganda (SDMU) project convened a Roadmap Planning Workshop to strengthen the mining sector’s contribution to Uganda’s socio-economic transformation in line with national, regional, and international standards.
Co-financed by the European Union (EU) and Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the project is implemented by GIZ in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (DGSM). It supports the development of a National Minerals Database (NMDB), a digital Chain of Custody (CoC) system, and an investment promotion website, in alignment with the Mining and Minerals Act, 2022 (Cap. 159), subsidiary regulations of 2023, and ICGLR requirements.
The workshop aims to define scope, governance, and agile roadmaps for phased development of these digital tools. Participants include representatives from EU, ICT Ministry, NITA-U, URA, UNDP, Bank of Uganda, UGAASM, DGSM, and private sector stakeholders.
