7 August 2025: Ms. Caro Aguti, AC HSE represented the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD), at a consultative meeting on Uganda’s draft Waste Management Policy.
The discussions emphasized the establishment of Regional Centers for Waste Management as a key strategy for sustainable waste handling and resource recovery. Particular focus was placed on the potential of waste-to-energy initiatives, highlighting the importance of connecting the megawatts of power generated from waste to the national grid. Participants further underscored the need to treat waste as a utility, an essential service that contributes to both environmental protection and energy generation.
The meeting was attended by the Hon. Minister of Local Government, Hon. Raphael Magyezi and the Hon. Minister for Kampala, Hon. Minsa Kabanda alongside other key stakeholders engaged in shaping Uganda’s waste management and energy future.
