The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD) SACCO has officially sworn in its new Executive Committee, with the Permanent Secretary, Eng. Irene Pauline Bateebe, presiding over the ceremony alongside the Assistant Commissioner Human Resource Management (AC HRM); Mr. Denis Kaggwa.
The ceremony was undertaken during the MEMD Senior Management on Minday, 18 May 2026 at Petroleum House.
Speaking during the event, Eng. Bateebe congratulated the newly elected leadership upon assuming office and commended them for stepping forward to serve MEMD staff through the SACCO movement.
She described the responsibility as a noble cause aimed at improving the welfare and financial wellbeing of staff members and challenged the new leadership to embrace innovation, strengthen member mobilization and uphold integrity in the management of SACCO resources.
The Permanent Secretary particularly encouraged the new Executive to expand membership by mobilizing more of the Ministry’s over 500 staff members to join the SACCO.
She further emphasized the importance of accountability, transparency and professionalism in the management of members’ savings and investments.
The Outgoing Chairperson Mr. Deus Katomi Muhwezi applauded members for the trust and support accorded to the outgoing leadership during their tenure.
He encouraged members of senior management to join the SACCO and reassured staff that strong governance and operational safeguards had been established to strengthen confidence in the institution.
He highlighted several key policy frameworks recently developed to guide SACCO operations, including the Credit Policy, Savings Policy, Investment Policy and Governance Policy.
The incoming Chairperson, Eng. George Turyakira, who brings extensive experience in SACCO management, pledged to provide strategic leadership and ensure the new Executive delivers on its mandate.
He reaffirmed the team’s commitment to promoting financial discipline, member growth and sustainable investments for the benefit of all members.
