The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD) wishes to inform the public, development partners, contractors, suppliers and consultants that the Government of Uganda has received financing from the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) for the implementation of the Uganda Rural Electricity Access Project Phase II (UREAP II).
Project Objective
The overall objective of UREAP II is to increase access to electricity for households, public institutions, and micro, small and medium enterprises across Uganda through a combination of main grid and mini grid solutions.
Project Components
The project will comprise the following components:
- Main Grid and Mini Grid Development
- Expansion of the national electricity grid.
- Development of solar photovoltaic (PV) mini grids.
- Installation of last mile electricity connections.
- Project Administration and Management
- Coordination, supervision and management of project activities.
- Institutional Support and Capacity Building
- Strengthening institutional capacity and technical expertise within the energy sector.
- Environmental and Social Safeguards
- Implementation of the Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP).
- Implementation of the Resettlement Action Plan (RAP).
Procurement Arrangements
Procurement of goods, works, consultancy services and non consultancy services under the project will be carried out in accordance with the African Development Bank Procurement Policy for Bank Group Funded Operations (October 2015).
Specific Procurement Notices (SPNs) and Requests for Expressions of Interest (REOIs) for various contracts will be published as they become available on the Ministry’s website, the African Development Bank website and in relevant national and regional media.
