Amber House, Kampala, 2 September 2025: The Energy Resources Department (ERD), through its Clean Cooking Unit, in partnership with UECCC and supported by GIZ EnDev, hosted a roundtable with Rwanda’s Ministry of Infrastructure, Directorate of Energy.
The meeting, chaired by the Commissioner ERD, focused on policy frameworks, progress, and opportunities for collaboration in clean cooking. Discussions covered subsidy program design, sustainability of markets post- subsidies, promotion of local stove and fuel manufacturing, and the role of standards.
Both countries shared challenges and successes, with Rwanda presenting private-sector monitoring strategies and Uganda showcasing its Clean Cooking Unit.
Opportunities for regional testing laboratories were explored.
