The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD) participated in the 12th Session of the African Regional Forum on Sustainable Development and the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) Global Knowledge Exchange Programme held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Representing the Ministry, Ms. Carol Agutti, Acting Commissioner for the Health, Safety and Environment Division, joined delegates from more than 30 countries to share experiences and explore innovative approaches to climate financing and sustainable development.
The forum provided an opportunity for countries to showcase CIF-supported initiatives and discuss strategies for mobilising investment towards clean energy, climate resilience and low-carbon development.
Uganda highlighted progress under the Electricity Access Scale-up Project and ongoing efforts to secure financing for industrial decarbonisation and other energy transition initiatives.
On the sidelines of the forum, MEMD held engagements with representatives from the Climate Investment Funds and the African Development Bank to strengthen collaboration and explore opportunities for concessional financing and technical assistance.
The delegation also visited industrial parks and riverbank restoration projects in Ethiopia to learn about nature based solutions that could help address environmental challenges affecting energy and mining infrastructure in Uganda The engagement reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to sustainable development, climate resilience and regional cooperation in advancing the energy transition agenda.
