Officials from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, TotalEnergies and the Petroleum Authority of Uganda met to advance discussions on the proposed Lake Albert Integrated Project Power Tariff Framework.
The discussions focused on electricity supply arrangements supporting the Tilenga, Kingfisher and East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) projects.
The proposed framework seeks to harmonise power generation, transmission and consumption requirements across the major petroleum developments in the Albertine Graben.
Participants reviewed power demand projections, infrastructure readiness and regulatory requirements necessary to operationalise the framework.
TotalEnergies informed stakeholders that it had submitted a request to the Electricity Regulatory Authority seeking modifications to its transmission licence to support the proposed integrated power arrangement.
The meeting also agreed on a roadmap for further engagement between TotalEnergies, Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited and sector regulators to address technical and commercial considerations.
The initiative reflects ongoing collaboration between Government, regulators and investors to ensure reliable, efficient and cost-effective energy supply for Uganda’s petroleum sector as the country advances towards commercial oil production.
