Kampala, 29 July 2026: Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa, Uganda’s Energy Minister, commissioned Euro Gold Refinery Uganda Limited— the country’s first fully Ugandan-owned gold refinery.
Accompanied by Minister Phiona Nyamutoro, she praised the plant as a major milestone in Uganda’s industrialization and mineral value addition.
The refinery, which utilizes eco-friendly Italian technology, aligns with President Museveni’s directive to ban the export of unprocessed minerals.
Uganda now boasts six refineries producing gold at 99.99% purity. Gold exports rose by 5% in May 2026. Nankabirwa announced plans for the Bank of Uganda to begin gold purchases, supporting national reserves and local miners.
