The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, through the Mines Department, has partnered with Busitema University and GIZ under the Sustainable Development of the Mining Sector in Uganda Programme to strengthen workforce development for the country’s growing mining industry.
The partnership is being implemented through the Industry Aligned Workforce Development for Uganda’s Mining Sector Project, which seeks to bridge the gap between academic training and industry requirements.
The initiative will support curriculum enhancement, practical skills development, artisanal and small-scale mining formalisation, mineral value addition and institutional capacity building Key focus areas include geology, mining engineering, mineral processing, environmental management and occupational safety.
The collaboration aims to produce graduates equipped with the technical knowledge and practical skills required to support the sustainable growth of Uganda’s mineral
sector.
As mineral exploration, extraction and value addition activities continue to expand across the country, the partnership is expected to contribute significantly to building a skilled workforce capable of supporting innovation, productivity and responsible resource development.
The initiative reflects Government’s commitment to strengthening local capacity and ensuring Ugandans fully participate in opportunities created by the mining sector.
