The International Solar Alliance (ISA) High-Level Mission to Uganda concluded with the official launch of the Solar Technology Application Resource Centre (STAR-C) at Busitema University, marking a significant milestone in Uganda’s renewable energy development journey.
The facility was inaugurated by the Director General of the International Solar Alliance, Mr. Ashish Khanna, who commended the Government of Uganda for creating an enabling environment that continues to promote innovation, research and investment in renewable energy.
He reaffirmed ISA’s commitment to supporting Uganda in scaling up similar initiatives across the country.
The delegation also toured the 4MW Busitema Solar Plant, which contributes electricity to the national grid while serving as a practical training and research facility for students and energy professionals.
Speaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Brian Isabirye noted that STAR-C will support solar testing, standards verification, research and skills development.
He revealed that the centre, established last year, has already trained more than 2,550 people.
The facility further strengthens Busitema University’s position as a regional centre of excellence in renewable energy research, innovation and workforce development.
