Busitema University has strengthened its position as a centre of excellence in renewable energy following the launch of the Solar Technology Application Resource Centre (STAR-C)
The facility was officially launched by the Director General of the International Solar Alliance, Mr. Ashish Khanna, during the ISA High-Level Mission to Uganda.
STAR-C will serve as a regional hub for solar research, innovation, testing, certification and skills development.
The centre is expected to play a critical role in building local technical capacity and supporting the adoption of quality solar technologies across Uganda and the wider region.
It will also facilitate practical training for students, technicians and industry professionals. Speaking during the launch, university and government officials noted that the facility will contribute to Uganda’s renewable energy ambitions by supporting innovation, standards development and workforce preparation for the growing solar sector.
The centre has already begun training programmes and is expected to accelerate technology transfer and knowledge sharing within the renewable energy industry.
