The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development has officially launched feasibility studies and Environmental and Social Impact Assessments for the proposed 400MW Kiba Hydropower Project.
The studies will assess the technical, economic, environmental and social viability of the project and provide critical information to guide future investment decisions.
The proposed project forms part of Government’s strategy to expand power generation capacity and meet growing electricity demand.
The consultancy team will undertake detailed investigations covering hydrology, engineering design, environmental safeguards, social impacts and project economics.
Once completed, the studies will inform decisions on project development and financing while ensuring that environmental and community considerations are fully integrated into project planning.
The Kiba Hydropower Project is expected to contribute to Uganda’s long term energy security objectives and support industrialisation, economic growth and increased access to reliable electricity.
Representations in the meeting included; MEMD, Consultant, MOFPED, MOWE, NPA, UEGCL, UETCL, ERA, UWA and NEMA
